This dataset contains data relating to Appendices 4, 5, 6 & 7 of the doctoral thesis of Martin Wimmer 'Gimme Shelter: Archaeology and the Social History of Structural Defence in Adelaide 1941-1943' conferred in 2014 by Flinders University of South Australia.
Appendix 4 contains a Shelter Database (excel spreadsheet). This database relates to 547 shelters that were recorded across the six distinct types of structural defence which had been identified and characterised in Adelaide. An additional 39 were recorded in country areas. These types were classified by form, differing levels of sophistication and the quality of protection provided by each.

Appendix 6 contains Additional Shelter Data. Collection of images and floor plans from 20 sites including: Chapman Type V, Freeman Type II (includes home movie), Geophysics (Soutar Park, Wallkerville Boys School), Glenelg Sub-Control Stn, Glover Playground pipes, Griff Type V (Millswood), Harley Type V, Jackson Type V, Kilburn Type IV rainwater tanks (Garland Avenue), Laffer Type II, Lamberton Type V, Marshmallow Park Pipes, Mitcham Primary Type IV, Norwood Oval Type V, Pierce Type V, Prospect Sub-Control Station, Therbarton Sub-Control Stn, Trowse Type III, Unley Oxford Tce Type V, Willis Type V (Beverley Shelter).
